Owning a property gives you the opportunity to turn your garden into a pleasant environment for you and your family to enjoy.
While this is true for the land you own, it doesn’t apply to the nature strip in front of your property. The nature strip is owned and controlled by your local council. While nature strips are not legally part of your property, you are still responsible for their upkeep and maintenance.
Nature strips are designed to help with stormwater drainage and add to the appeal of your street.
If you have a dead or dangerous tree on your nature strip and would like it removed, you will need to call your local council to have someone come out to conduct a tree inspection. Fees do apply for the inspection. If the council approves the tree to be removed, you engage your own tree removal specialist to do the work.
As tempting as it may be, don’t remove or plant anything on your nature strip without prior approval. You may be faced with heavy fines for not complying with council laws. For any questions or concerns regarding the trees on your nature strip contact your local council.
