DID YOU KNOW THIS ABOUT BANGALOW, QUEENSLAND?

Bangalow is a small locality in Byron Shire, New South Wales. It is located 765 km North of the state capital, Sydney. The name Bangalow was said to be derived from an Indigenous Australian term “Bangalla”, meaning ‘a low hill’ or ‘a kind of palm tree’. This town is held under the state electorate of Ballina.

Historic streetscapes and its proximity to popular tourist spots in Byron Bay have made Bangalow a great spot for holiday-makers. The main street is also lined with cafes and shops.  Around the 1840s, timber cutters established a camp on the banks of Byron Creek. Not until the 1880s when a town named Bangaloe appeared on the site. In 1907, the modern spelling came into use.

The town is also home to home to the Bangalow Billy Cart Derby. This event is held each year.

In 1884, the Bangalow Public School was established. A four-classroom building was made in 1925. In the early 1900s, the Bangalow Uniting Church was reconstructed after a tornado destroyed the original church.

As of 2016, Bangalow recorded a population of more than 2,000 people living in the area. Their population consisted of  74.2% of people born in the country. 5.6% of the population was composed of people born in England. 87.4% were also people who only use the English language as they spoke at home.

Bangalow is filled with residential properties and trees. Trees are a great addition to any lawns or backyards because they contribute more than cool air for homes. But trees planted near homes in Bangalow need to go through proper maintenance in order to help ensure the safety of property and lives.
