This large Phoenix Palm located at the Isle of Palms Resort on the Gold Coast was in serious need of some tlc. The Resort contacted Tree Essence Arborists, concerned about the state of the Palm. Whilst the pool was undergoing a complete renovation, some the large root system had been exposed by the machinery.
We put together a “Health Management Plan” to ensure the longevity and stability of the Palm, beginning with a “Short, Back and Sides”, so to speak. So, what is involved in a Health Management Plan? It is an annual occurrence where we prune, being very careful not to over prune as this causes stress to the palms, all the dead fronds, old husks and seed pods are removed, canopy foliage spray is used as the cane beetle is a contributing factor for infestation of these palms and we do a soil injection treatment. In this instance, as the roots had been exposed, we pruned and treated the roots with a product called ‘Trichoderma’, which reduces and neutralises the fungi. It also helps to protect the roots after the tree has undergone shock.

We will go to any length to keep humans, animals and assets safe. On this occasion we found ourselves confronted with a Kookaburra nest complete with babies in the centre of the Phoenix Palm. The nest is still intact and the babies are well!
To capture the beauty of this stunning Phoenix Tree at night, we installed ‘Wash Lights’ around the trunk of the tree which also acts as safety lighting illuminating the tree and the walkway.
