How do I get Gold Coast City Council approval to remove a tree?

01 Sep 2020
There are a lot of factors to take into consideration when removing a tree. Under the Gold Coast legislation, you can’t just go and cut down a tree. All trees are protected over a certain size.

For private land, lots 4,000m2 and under – any tree within 1.5 metres on the boundary fence line is classed as self accessible and does not require Council approval. Lots between 4000m2 to 7999m2 – any tree within 3 metres of the boundary and lots 8000m2 and greater – any tree within 6 metres of the boundary also do not require Council approval.

Cocos Palm, Umbrella Trees, Camphor Laurel, African Tulip are environmental weeds and regardless of their location, there is no approval required.

More details can be found on the Council website: https://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/environment/planting-removing-trees-4071.html
